I've been dating a young woman for five months and about 1 month ago everything changed.   We spent 5 days together over labor day weekend together and had an amazing time.  I did not know about BPD and alcohol was involved.   Two days later she got angry and broke up with me.  Four days later we were back together and everything was fine.

This Saturday we spent another wonderful day together.  But that night when she was gone I asked a question about dual personalities.  She went from zero to 100 in the blink of an eye.  Again four days later and we are  back together again but we did get a chance to talk personally and I can identify many of classic signs of BPD.

This week I've done a lot of research on BPD.  She has not told me anything about her mental health except that she was institutionalized and had attempted suicide twice.  She is taking many prescriptions drugs one of which is Lithium.  Her anger was intense and very hurtful personally to me.

I've been walking on egg shells and we are meeting again on Saturday.   I won't live this cycle of abuse but I do care enough about her to try to make things work.

-Should I raise the issue of mental health and if so how?
-Do people with BPD have bad periods of time then recover to a more stable state?
-Is this a downward spiral in our relationship that is doomed to fail?
-If I need to end  this how can I do so with the least amount of harm to her.
