What does "bland" mean in BP land? A thread for amusment in a sea of chaos.

Yesterday, H decides he is going to have Hot and Sour soup for dinner and when he gets to the Chinese place, he realizes that he forgot "common courtesy" and calls me to ask if I want something. I ask for some egg drop soup and he says he also ordered some Szechuan Pork.

He gets home and tries the Pork and says "Aw, it's bland." So I ask "It isn't spicy?" He says "No, it has plenty of spicy, it's bland."

So I try some. "I see," I said "It doesn't have much flavor." (Which it didn't and BTW was not spicy,either). And he says "No, it has a lot of flavor, but it's bland." I finished up with "It's a shame it's disappointing."

So

1) What does "bland" mean in BP terms? Anyone?

2) Who has something else similar to tell?

Maybe he meant, it's nothing special like he was imagining or hoping it would be?  Lacks in uniqueness, doesn't stand out, not very pizzazzy, just rather bland.

That one is probably right. He imagines things are supposed to be a certain way and gets overly disappointed when they aren't. I would have given more than just the word "bland" twice, but perhaps he couldn't think of the words he wanted to use.

I think Pheobes onto the right answer but wouldn't "boring" have been easier to understand. You're great a dealing with it though and I hope the egg drop soup was worth it.
