The problem here is that there is no option to really
die the hero
, nobody will see you that way, especially not the person with BPD that is killing you.

Well assuming you leave decisively during the idealization phase I think its possible to "die a hero" (that is with your sense of self still fully intact and your partener still "wanting you". I had a chance to do this and DID because I felt she wasnt right for me and was moving to another state/graduating college. I fought her for many months against her opining that i was "the one". Somewhere along the line i let myself slip back to her and it ended in disaster. BUT i could have "died" the hero had i just LEFT before the devaluation!
